PRIOR APPROVAL
"The circumstances under
which a particular laboratory operation, procedure or activity shall
require prior approval form the employer or the employer’s designee before
implementation." 29 CFR 1910.1450(e)(3)(v)
The responsibility for approval of the acquisition and use
of toxic chemical agents rests with the laboratory supervisor. Certain
materials including radioactive materials, recombinant DNA and certain
biohazards require prior internal (campus) or external approval at various
levels. If there are questions concerning the need for approvals, the
Center for Environmental Health and Safety should be consulted.
