Chemical Training Information
Welcome to the Center for Environmental Health and Safety Chemical
Training page.
Chemical Safety and Disposal Training is required initially for all
personnel working with chemicals. This includes all University faculty,
staff, graduate assistants and student employees working with hazardous
chemicals. Training must be refreshed on an annual basis.
Initial training must be performed by CEHS personnel. This training
takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete and consists of a overview of
chemical handling and disposal procedures, spill response, Material Safety
Data Sheets and other chemical guidelines. Training is divided into
laboratory and non-laboratory based training since standards are different
for laboratories.
Training will be provided on a regular basis in the CEHS training
room. Anyone at SIUC may contact our office and attend this training.
Contact CEHS for a list of current dates and times for this training. CEHS
will also continue to train on-site departmentally as requested for groups
of 20 or more.
Annual refresher training can be done by attending one of the
aforementioned training seminars.
Responsibility is left to Colleges and Departments in ensuring
appropriate employees attend training.
