Beautify Southern Illinois Student Alliance (BSISA) is a group working to help preserve the natural beauty of southern Illinois through volunteerism, environmental education, and service learning. Membership is free--no dues! And, everyone is welcome!

SIUC Saluki Volunteer Corps 14th Annual "Day of Service"
Saturday, September 6, 2008
8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m
Environmental volunteer otpions include: litter cleanup, planting flowers and trail work at Touch of Nature. Lunch provided for volunteers!
You must pre-register with Saluki Volunteer Corps, 3rd floor of the Student Center, 453-5714

Heartland Bioneers Conference
Volunteers are needed to assist with the 2008 Heartland Bioneers Conference (a positive environmental conference with a focus on practical environmental solutions and innovative social strategies). Volunteers are needed from September 8th to October 20th. Conference dates October 17 to 19, 2008. For more information or to volunteer contact Kris Schachel sustain@siu.edu or call 525-7900

Shawnee National Forest needs volunteers to assist with trail maintenance. Trail work days are scheduled for the following Saturdays: Sept. 27, Oct. 4, Oct. 25, Nov. 22 (all 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.).

Shawnee Trash Bash
Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 Noon to 4:30 p.m.
Volunteers will clean up litter in the beautiful Shawnee National Forest. This is a joint project of the Sierra Club, Shawnee National Forest and Beautify Southern Illinois. Meal provided to volunteers. BSISA will provide transportation or organize car pools for SIUC students to travel to this event near Harrisburg, Illinois (will leave Carbondale at 10:30 a.m. and return approx. 6:30 p.m.). SIUC students wanting to pre-register can contact Paul Restivo restivo@cehs.siu.edu

Become an SIUC Environmental Ambassador: SIUC students who volunteer 30 or more hours for positive environmental projects (examples above) during an academic year qualify for the honorary “SIUC Environmental Ambassador Award”.
