For adopting areas for the purpose of litter clean ups, there are two separate programs that we are supporting:

Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Adopt A Highway Program:

The IDOT program focuses on state-controlled highways such as Route 148 & Route 13. Information about the IDOT program may be found at:
http://www.dot.state.il.us/aah/default.html

The IDOT web site offers an on-line application form. If you would like to talk with IDOT before actually submitting an application to determine if an area may be adopted or may have already been adopted by another group, please contact IDOT. Please be especially mindful of the IDOT safety guidelines: http://www.dot.state.il.us/ahh/guidelines.html we use their guidelines as our guidelines.

The contact page for IDOT areas may be found at:
http://www.dot.state.il.us/aah/images/contact.html

Current on-line application to adopt state highway:
http://www.dot.state.il.us/aah/forms/application.asp

Non-State road adoptions:

In Williamson County, Brent Gentry, County Commissioner is sponsoring a county roadway adoption program. His program’s focus is Williamson County-controlled roadways. Brent suggests that people who may wish to adopt a county roadway should contact him so he can provide information related to areas in need of adoption and related information. Brent may be contacted at: 997-1301 Ext. 135 or via e-mail at llure@shawneelink.net I will also fax you a hard copy of the non-state controlled Adopt a Spot adoption form (but prior to filling out this form be sure to touch base with Brent to be sure the area is available/appropriate).

In Carbondale, Keep Carbondale Beautify has an Adopt-A-Spot program. They will provide you with trash bags and collect the litter from the adopted area after a clean-up. For more information please contact Valerie Rasp at keepcb@midwest.net or call 618-525-5525.

Other Counties in southern Illinois, Beautify Southern Illinois Campaign has a non-state road adoption program for all counties below Interstate 64. For more information about this program contact Paul Restivo at 618-453-7180 or email him at restivo@cehs.siu.edu.
