Day of Service |see
the pictures| Bright and early after a wild night on a crazy college campus, 200
volunteers dedicated their weekend morning to giving back to our country.
September 11, 2001 America was attacked in the worse way; today, three years
later, American citizens took the day to reminisce and take pride in our
beautiful country. Students dedicated their morning to create a community
garden, Habitat for Humanity, Fall Plantings, and Beautify Southern
Illinois.
Beautify members and volunteers collected approximately 120 bags of garbage
throughout Carbondale. Locations included all the hot spots: Pinch Penny
Pub, Piles Fork Creek, Campus Lake, Thompson Woods, and of course, the
strip. Volunteer groups included Sigma Lambda Gamma, Neely Hall, Schneider
Hall, Beautify Southern Illinois Student Alliance, Circle K, Leadership
Council, Beta Theta Pi, as well as other student groups.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make this day possible. You
have proven your pride in our country! Special thanks to Mythili Rundblad
and Josh Jordan of Saluki Volunteer Corps, the sponsor of Day of Service.
