CONTAMINATED EMPLOYEE-OWNED CLOTHING PROCEDURE

Location: All SIUC facilities

Purpose: To provide a mechanism for laundering of employee-owned clothing which has become penetrated by blood or body fluids during the course of an employee's duties, with the aim of decreasing pathogenic microbial contamination.

Instructions:

  1. Call the Center for Environmental Health and Safety (453-7180). Inform the Center of your need for a laundry bag.
  2. Remove contaminated clothing as soon as feasible and place it in the provided laundry bag.
  3. The Center for Environmental Health and Safety Employee will be responsible for delivering the contaminated clothing to the University Laundry and arranging for pickup and delivery of the cleaned clothing to the owner.
  4. In the event that contamination occurs during hours when the laundry is closed, the bagged contaminated clothing will be delivered to the Laundry on the following day.
