Waste Disposal
Biological Waste
Biological Waste
collections are made once each week, on Wednesdays. Regulated Waste is liquid or semi-liquid blood or
other potentially infectious materials; contaminated items
that would release blood or other potentially infectious
materials in a liquid or semi-liquid state if compressed;
items that are caked with dried blood or other potentially
infectious materials that are capable of releasing these
materials during handling; contaminated sharps; and
pathological and microbiological wastes containing blood or
other potentially infectious materials. If you are unsure if
your waste is considered regulated, please contact the
Laboratory and Hazardous Waste Section of the Center for
Environmental Health and Safety at
biological@cehs.siu.edu or 618-453-7180.
