Environmental
Compliance Section
The Environmental Compliance
Section serves as a liaison to the various campus
departments and the regulatory community. The section
is responsible for ensuring that campus operations
comply with various federal, state, and local
regulations from regulatory agencies that include US
and IL Environmental Protection Agencies,
Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of the
Illinois State Fire Marshal
and the City of Carbondale. Compliance areas include air
pollution control, storage tanks, soil and groundwater
contamination, drinking water, wastewater, asbestos
abatement, etc. Other responsibilities include
preparing permit applications, monitoring emerging
regulations with an impact on campus operations,
identifying environmental compliance requirements for
specific activities.
