Deborah Cocke 2004 SIUC Environmental Health & Safety Award Winner-                                          Anonymous

On March 25, 2004, Center for Environmental Health & Safety director Paul Restivo presented Deborah Cocke,  Disaster Resource Coordinator, of the SIUC Department of Public Safety with the 2004 SIUC Environmental Health & Safety Award. CEHS accepts nominations (nominations end the 1st Monday of February) for an award to recognize those individuals or groups who have had a tremendously positive impact on safety and health on our campus.  

 

Deb Cocke from the Department of Public Safety receives the 2004 SIUC Environmental Health & Safety Award from Director Paul Restivo.
Deborah was nominated by Captain Todd Sigler of the SIUC Department of Public Safety. Todd's nomination stated in part:
 
Officer Cocke has been actively involved in several safety initiatives for the campus while serving in two capacities with the Department of Public Safety. Some of these initiatives include:
- Assisting with the coordination of the Building Emergency Response Team B.E.R.T. program http://www.bert.siu.edu/

- Chairperson for the Disaster Response and Recovery Communications Committee

- Member of the Disaster Exercise Committee to assist with the development and implementation of the annual disaster exercises

- Creation of the Executive Summary Plans

- Overseen the completion of the Disaster Response and Recovery Plan

- Serves as the liaison with several community and regional disaster response agencies

- Creation and implementation of disaster web sites

- Provided numerous assorted safety programs to faculty and staff on disaster response and crime prevention efforts.

 

 

     Award Recipient Deb Cocke with Paul Restivo, Director of the Center for Environmental Health & Safety, and Captain Todd Sigler of the Department of Public Safety.

 

In presenting Deb with the 2004 award, Paul Restivo stated:

Deb's contribution to the safety and preparedness of our campus community has been outstanding. She has helped us in all the ways that Todd described in his nomination. Her contribution in fact goes well beyond our campus. Deb's training and advocacy for our campus being prepared for a wide variety of potential emergency situations has certainly helped the entire southern Illinois region become better prepared because hundreds of SIUC faculty & staff take home their heightened awareness and understanding of emergencies and develop emergency preparedness plans for their homes too!
